Meet Josh

Josh and his wife, Elyse, founded the company Live Sankalpa. If you haven’t tried one of their mats, you’re missing out! They partner with local artists to create unique designs on mats and yoga attire. We personally love them and congratulate them on welcoming a new baby girl, Juniper.

What does Om mean to you?

Om is the most sacred and ancient mantra, representing the sound of the universe.  It's a channel to connect with the infinite.

How did you find your Om?  Tell us a little bit about your journey.

My daily practice helps.  I started yoga in the Iyengar tradition in 2006.  I've gone through quite a winding road of a lot of different styles and traditions, and have been practicing Ashtanga now for the past 5-6 years.

How do you live your Om now?  How has your practice shifted over the years?

Having a daily yoga practice helps.  It's a daily reminder to myself that helps keep me grounded and bring me back to the discipline every day.  But the physical practice is only a small component of yoga.  It's a channel to start experiencing yoga and mindfulness. m As my practice develops and gets more advanced, it becomes a more regular part of my life off the mat.  It helps with decision making, every day life choices, and overall peace of mind.

What has been your greatest challenge along your journey?  Greatest gift?

Probably sticking to the path.  Sometimes you can deal with any sort of challenge or hardship that can make it easy to forget what you've learned in yoga.  But yoga is a guide that you can always come back to.  Greatest gift is developing an internal compass to better understand life and what it's all about.  It makes decision making easier and gives a sense of purpose.  I think that's the greatest gift you can ask for.

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out?

Have faith, but always ask questions.  There's a lot of wisdom to be gained from this discipline, but there's also a lot of misinformation and fraudsters.  Check your sources when you're just starting off and make sure they feel legit to you.

How can we stay in touch with you?  Do you have any special classes, workshops or trainings coming up?

Check us out online.  We run livesankalpa.com which is a platform for artists and yogis to collaborate and create high quality products like yoga mats and yoga pants.
